best Business Intelligence System Ite– The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will introduce an enhanced curriculum structure for selected courses from Academic Year 2022.
Under this new structure, Higher Nitec (National ITE Scheme) certification can be completed in three years, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and ITE announced on April 30.

Currently, ITE students must complete the two-year Nitec program before the Higher Nitec program which normally lasts two years.

The improved curriculum structure will eliminate overlapping competencies between Nitec and Higher Nitec courses, reducing the time to complete Nitec and Higher Nitec by one year.
In the enhanced structure, students will take basic foundation courses in Year 1 before taking specialized modules in Years 2 and 3.
Students will also do two industrial attachments in the next two years of study – a three-month IA in Year 2 and a six-month IA in Year 3. The two IAs are “designed to connect” and build on each other.
“Together, this nine-month industrial attachment is important and provides students with authentic workplace learning and the result of this will be a stronger workplace competence, there will be skills relevant to the industry, they will be better prepared for work,” MOE and ITE said .

The new curriculum was examined as part of the Review of Opportunities and Pathways in Applied Education, led by Minister of Education II Maliki Osman.
ITE said the new curriculum structure was a “significant change” and therefore could not “transit all courses overnight”.
In the first phase of implementation, 16 courses, eight Nitec and eight higher Nitec, have been identified and will involve about 2,000 students admitted in Year 1 and about 1,200 students directly enrolled in Year 2.
Applications for these eight Higher Nitec courses will open in May 2021 through the Early Admission Exercise (EAE) or in December 2021 through the Joint Intake Exercise (JIE).

About 80 percent of ITE courses are expected to make the transition to the three-year Nitec Tinggi structure by 2024.
The first phase will be reviewed and necessary adjustments will be made to the curriculum before moving to the implementation phase.
Through the new curriculum, ITE students have a more direct path to achieving the Nitec Tinggi certificate. This is in line with MOE’s commitment to provide all ITE graduates with the opportunity to attain the Nitec certificate by 2030.
The curriculum will provide greater flexibility to meet the different strengths and needs of students, MOE and ITE said. This includes students who can complete their higher Nitec in two years and those who need more than several years to do so.

“We also note, that in the context of our ITE, the profile of students is not homogeneous. We have a wide variety and it informs us how to design the structure of the new curriculum and also informs us how to make it flexible and suitable for different learning styles- different,” said MOE and ITE.
Students can choose to work first with a Nitec qualification and return to complete their higher Nitec studies at a later stage. They can return at any time to complete the remaining modules, part-time or full-time.
Higher Nitec graduates will also have the option to upgrade through programs like the ITE Work-Study Diploma (WSDip).
